Many of you may know about the stars of the hit film, “Beauty Shop,” but, unless you attended the Baltimore Comic-Con in May, June, or July, you may not know all about the cast of Beauty Shop, directed by Billie Woodruff, and stars Christina Ricci and Dakota Fanning. The great thing about this comedy film is that it was well made, it is very cute and there are many laughs to be had. But what about the people behind the film? Let’s first look at Billie Woodruff’s directorial work on “Beauty Shop” cast. For those that are unaware of her, she is a Chicago-based film producer and writer. She produced the great films “The Painted Bird” and “50/50.” Although she may not be as famous as her predecessors, she has proven herself to be a very accomplished producer and director. She is also the founder of the independent production company, Carries Pig Productions.
In addition to directing, Woodruff has also written and produced the short films “A Family Reunion,” and “I Know What I’m Looking For.” She has also written episodes for the TV series, “Army Wives” and “The Newsroom.” She has an extensive amount of filmmaking and production experience. Great direction by Woodruff and cast of Beauty Shop has proved this comedy film to be a masterpiece.
Christina Ricci and Dakota Fanning
Unfortunately, the film stars and major cast of “Beauty Shop,” Christina Ricci and Dakota Fanning, didn’t appear at the Baltimore Comic-Con, so there was no opportunity to talk to them about the film. However, the film is directed by Woodruff, and thus, you can’t help but get a lot of insight about the film’s production from someone who worked on the film. Thus, to learn more about the film and see the footage, it will be necessary to see the film. And, at the Baltimore Comic-Con, it was announced that the film was due to be released on VOD and in select theaters in 2005.
In addition to the film’s director, the film also stars Kathy Bates, Julia Stiles, Rose Byrne, Mike Birbiglia, Sterling Jerins, Joan Cusack, Mark Boone Junior, and Patrick Scola. Thus, the whole Beauty Shop movie cast was amazing. The film also was co-written by Alan Doss. “Beauty Shop” was produced by Carries Pig Productions and Dontnod Entertainment. The film was also co-financed by Paradigm and CAA. It was released on DVD, Blu-Ray, and VOD by Orion Pictures and was distributed by Lionsgate.
The movie is based on the novel “The Beauty Shop,” by Suzanne Fisher. The Beauty Shop movie cast includes various stars. However, the film follows Carolyn (Christina Ricci), an apprentice hairdresser, whose parents have just died. Carolyn is shocked when her beloved father’s cousin, whom she has always been very close to, tells her that her father left her controlling control over the family business.
Carolyn is now faced with her dreams of opening her own beauty salon, but she doesn’t want to step foot inside her father’s former business. Carolyn is turned on when she learns that the property that her father owned is up for sale, and she wants to use the money from the sale to open her own salon. After a series of misfortunes, the salon is about to close when a young beauty shop owner walks in and asks Carolyn to work with her.
Carolyn discovers that the younger woman’s hairstyles are the work of her father’s former hairdresser, and, after the two-start working together, they discover that the two women have more in common than they ever imagined. The cast of Beauty Shop also includes Carrie Preston, Scott Cohen, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Tony Hale, Michael Eklund, Jack Cutmore-Scott, and Dulcé Sloan.
The film is directed by Billie Woodruff, and it stars Christina Ricci and Dakota Fanning, both actresses are appearing in their first movie, so it is exciting to see them on-screen together. And, while they didn’t attend the Baltimore Comic-Con, there were rumors that Woodruff attended the Baltimore Comic-Con to promote the “Beauty Shop” cast and the movie too. The production company and director have been busy this year, producing a few films, but it will be exciting to see the finished product of “Beauty Shop,” especially since it is Woodruff’s first film as a director.

Woodruff’s directing debut is “Beauty Shop,” and she is also producing the movie alongside Carries Pig Productions with the beautiful cast of Beauty Shop. The company is owned by Richard Middleton, with the executive producers being Derek Simon, Lynn Hendee, and Christopher Dodd. Middleton produced the film “Mister Jenkins,” and he wrote the scripts for the films “Ransom” and “Jack,” and he has written episodes for “Nip/Tuck,” “Desperate Housewives” and the NBC series “The Slap.” Hendee has produced the film “Hotel Salvation,” as well as “Bitch” and “Cell 4.” Dodd has worked on the films “Gossip” and “The Village.” However, the Beauty Shop movie cast is coming from other projects.
Carrie was able to land her first big project as a producer, when she and Middleton began working on “Relic,” which will be in theaters later this year. The film is directed by Arclight Films’ Adam Arkin, and it stars Catherine Keener, Ryan Hurst, James Remar, Corey Stoll, Keir O’Donnell, and Gino Anthony Pesi. Middleton has also collaborated with Arkin on “Suburbicon,” which will be released later this year by Paramount Pictures. Arkin also directed the movie “In Dubious Battle” for Arclight, which starred Alan Alda, Harrison Ford, Glenn Close, and Jack Lemmon, and he has also directed films for CBS and HBO.
Woodruff and Ricci has produced “Beauty Shop,” and the film has quite a few other big names attached. The Beauty Shop cast list is impressive, and Christina Ricci and Dakota Fanning’s characters are certainly a big deal for the movie.
